THE POWER to change the world IS IN THE HANDS OF THE ARTIST.

We will always stay firm on our belief that everyone has a powerful, dynamic, vulnerable, uplifting, poignant story to tell and everyone deserves the chance to tell that story.

We believe that creative collaboration, the space to fail and to hold space for authentic stories are the foundations to why we do what we do.
Whilst we are determined to produce world-class innovative theatre that is raucous and loud it is the work behind the scenes that we want to change the world with.

We want to be the home in the Midlands for artists to be able to take risks, fail and grow and develop their voice as a creative.

our promises

at least 50% of cast and creative teams in all of our productions will be an early-career working class artist.

To give you a safe space to take risks, fail and grow as an artist.

To make electric, raucous productions that speak to the heart of the city.

To always have an ear on what current audiences are calling out for, despite how old we get…

What we do

TECTUM Theatre was founded by Sam Butters in 2021 with the sole aim of giving support and opportunities for working-class and early-career artists whilst also making loud & raucous shows that speak to the people of the streets.

Our productions include Hand Of God (OFFIE Nominated for Lead Performance), Gangsta Baby (Hope Theatre, London), Everybody Wants To Be Ronaldo.

Since 2021 TECTUM Theatre has supported over 200 artists through productions, scratch nights, workshops and actor showcases.

For every TECTUM Theatre production at least 50% of the cast and creative will be early-career working class artists. Always.

Our productions hold a hybrid of gig-theatre & musical elements, using the music of the streets to compliment the language of the productions world. Whether you feel like you’ve just stepped out of a rave at 3am, head-banged at a rock concert or celebrated with folk songs of your home we want to make sure you feel positively electric and alive with theatre and music.

“If we can help just
one person in their journey then we have done enough.”

- Nyasha Gudo, Creative Director.

We have no set rules for how we can help you as an artist. Art should remain reckless and rule-free.
In 2024, we strive to open more opportunities across the city to help you kick-start your career or grow your creative practice.
But we want to help you on a personal level. Each artist has individual needs and wants and we are here as a space for you to explore who you are as a creative. Whether it is through our workshops, retreats or youth theatre work or helping you on an individual basis with your specific wants. We are here for you. As friends, colleagues, creatives, rule-breakers, trend-setters and unapologetic artists.

The more we can all collaborate together, the stronger all of our work will be.
